Your heart on your sleeve

Happy Valentines Week! Though I know that there's a lot of cynicism about this made-for-Hallmark holiday, it's become pretty important to Mr. Barefoot and me, as it marks our first date, three years ago. Who knows whether we were shot by Cupid's arrow that night, absorbed the romanticism in the air, or finally got our timing right (like finding an empty taxi with its light on, in the midst of a downpour) - we'll surely be savoring our good fortune all week.

Remembering the carved heart cufflinks I posted about - but never purchased - for my sweetie nearly a year ago, I wondered what other goodies were out there to go with the French cuff shirt.

Leaving your prints all over your partner is one sure way to mark him/her as "off the market." I like the subtlety of these silver hearts.

You could take the more literal route, with this anatomical heart.

Add color, for a slightly more gothic look.

Or go for the old-fashioned wood cut.

Scenes from a cowgirl wedding

The farm gate, with flowers and a bit of tulle to indicate the festivities to come...

Look at those dark, dark cloud obscuring the Grand Teton. Fortunately, they cleared in time for an outdoor ceremony. A snap decision was reached at 4:00, and chairs were set up, overlooking the river in front of Dr. Cowgirl's parent's house.

Dr. Cowgirl and her husband. Dontcha love a wedding with an Airstream, where even the groom wears boots?

The escort cards reflected the local flora, and the couple's love of native plants. (Bay Area friends were all seated at the California poppy table.)

Inspiration for the escort cards...

But it was the little nieces, four-wheeling in the pink Jeep, who stole the show!

Divine details

Did you see the darling summer-camp-inspired wedding at Style Me Pretty?
You must take a look! It's both gorgeous and laid back.

If the devil - or the divine - is in the details (which is it, really?), they had one helluva - or one heavenly - wedding.

Either way, I pretty much want to steal all their special little touches.

Mr. Barefoot is the world's leading expert on a particular of species of dragonfly found in one Rhode Island swamp. The icon made it onto our registry dishes - so we'll need some dragonflies at the reception as well.

This is exactly the sort of outdoorsy bout I've been dreaming of...

And the tables look so inviting, yet not overdone.

Another inspiring table saved long ago, from - ack! - and unknown source. I'll gladly post the link if someone knows.
